Nancy Shukri highlights women’s leadership qualities in civil service, promoting empowerment through Perantis, Gig@BIT and Kirana programmes.
KUCHING: Women civil servants demonstrate leadership qualities with integrity, empathy and team spirit while performing daily tasks, according to Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri.
She emphasised that effective civil service leadership requires not only efficiency and knowledge but also strong human values.
Nancy said her ministry is committed to empowering women’s leadership through various development programmes including Perantis, Gig@BIT and Kirana under the Women’s Development Department.
“The Perantis programme, for instance, is a leadership guidance platform that aims to nurture women in the fields of economics, politics and technology,” she said in her speech at the close of MAKSAK Wanita Sarawak Amazing Race 2025.
She explained that programme participants learn from women leaders to build confidence and create positive impacts in their communities and organisations.
Nancy specifically encouraged women civil servants in Sarawak to join the Perantis programme to enhance their leadership skills.
“We started the pioneer project last year with an allocation of RM5 million, but only one participant from Sarawak was involved,” she revealed.
She expressed hope for four additional participants from Sarawak this year to ensure more local women benefit from the programme.
Nancy believes such initiatives provide women civil servants opportunities for personal development while strengthening a more effective, inclusive and caring civil service. – Bernama
