Perodua to launch Malaysian-made electric vehicle this month

Perodua’s first fully Malaysian-made electric vehicle launches end-November, promising affordability and national economic stimulation

RAWANG: Perodua will launch its first electric vehicle meeting national requirements by the end of this month.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the fully Malaysian-made EV during an engagement session with Perodua staff.

“The EV to be launched will be affordable, meet national requirements and able to stimulate the economy,” he said.

Anwar said the launch reflects the strength of domestic research and development as well as workforce.

“The EV launch is proof that the automotive company not only has excellent R&D team expertise but is also very disciplined in terms of management and good governance,” he added.

The Prime Minister pledged full government and public support for Perodua’s electric vehicle initiative.

Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Ahmad revealed the company has produced 5.5 million vehicles during its 32 years of operation.

“We have also invested RM13.4 billion since 1993 and Perodua is also preparing to overcome challenges in the future and invest in EV models,” he said.

The first EV will be over 30% locally assembled at Perodua’s new factory in Rawang.

Priced under RM80,000, the electric vehicle will target young buyers and small families.

Initial production is expected to reach 500 units per month, offering affordable EV driving experience to Malaysian consumers. – Bernama
