Government boosts pepper industry funding to RM45.8 million

Pepper industry allocation more than doubles to RM45.8 million under 13MP, funding 10 strategic projects across the value chain to boost farmer income

BATU PAHAT: The Ministry of Plantation and Commodities has significantly increased its funding for the pepper industry to RM45.8 million in 2026.

This allocation under the 13th Malaysia Plan is more than double the RM21.4 million provided last year.

Minister Datuk Seri Dr Noraini Ahmad said the increase reflects the government’s confidence in the sector’s potential as a high-value agricultural contributor to economic growth.

She stated that 10 strategic development projects will be implemented across the entire pepper industry value chain.

These projects will cover upstream activities like planting and productivity enhancement, as well as downstream development including processing and market expansion.

Noraini said smallholders will receive direct benefits through several key initiatives.

These include assistance for developing new planting areas and managing mature pepper fields.

Support will also be provided for adopting modern agricultural technology and practices.

“Besides, efforts are also focused on reducing production costs through the development of alternative inputs and technical support for farmers,” she said.

The minister added that the initiatives are expected to create higher income opportunities.

This will be achieved through the expansion of downstream industries and the development of value-added pepper-based products.

Noraini was speaking at a ‘Berbuka Puasa’ event with the Plantation and Commodities Minister here.
