KUALA LUMPUR: Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King’s significant contributions to the media industry and the country’s economic development will always be remembered, Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said.

Expressing condolences to the family of the late media tycoon in the Dewan Rakyat today, Teo also paid tribute to the honorary chairman of Media Chinese International Ltd.

“Before I begin my response, allow me to take a moment to convey my deepest condolences to the family of the late Tan Sri Tiong Hiew King on his passing,” she said before answering a question from Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad (BN-Simpang Renggam) during the oral question-and-answer session.

She said under the late Tiong’s leadership, Chinese-language media grew to become one of the most influential media groups in the region, with major publications such as Sin Chew Daily, China Press, Nanyang Siang Pau, and Asia Weekly (Yazhou Zhoukan) reaching millions of readers across various countries

“His contributions in advancing the media sector and strengthening the local economy are immense and will continue to be remembered as a valuable legacy,” she added.

“May his family and colleagues in Media Chinese International Ltd be granted strength and fortitude during this time of loss,” she said.
