Malaysia’s National Data Repository set for 2025 launch, enhancing data governance and supporting AI-driven nation goals through secure data integration
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Digital is finalising an implementation plan for the National Data Repository, scheduled for launch next year.
Deputy Digital Minister Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong said this initiative supports the MADANI Government’s agenda to position Malaysia as an AI-driven nation by 2030.
“This data centre will enable more efficient government decision-making, policy planning, and improved public service delivery,” he told the Dewan Rakyat.

Key implementation measures include comprehensive studies of Malaysia’s current data ecosystem and establishing national data governance policies.
The repository will also prioritise developing data standards to ensure consistency across all government agencies.
Infrastructure capabilities and workforce data management skills will be evaluated alongside technology platform development.
“This approach ensures secure, efficient data sharing between government systems while boosting public confidence in information management,” Wilson said.
The MyGOV Malaysia application relies on the repository as a national source of high-quality, multi-sector data.
Integration enables MyGOV to display data from various agencies on one platform and conduct proactive eligibility checks.
It also streamlines and accelerates the process of delivering public assistance.
Secure integration protocols will include using verified data from trusted sources and requiring explicit user consent.
The government will implement data security measures in line with the Data Sharing Act 2025, including strict access controls for all management parties. – Bernama
