Jack Schlossberg, JFK’s grandson, announces congressional bid for Manhattan seat, joining crowded Democratic field for Jerrold Nadler’s district.
NEW YORK: Jack Schlossberg, grandson of President John F. Kennedy, plans to run for Congress next year according to The New York Times.
The 32-year-old announced his first bid for public office in an email to supporters on Tuesday night.
He will seek the Democratic nomination for Manhattan’s 12th congressional district seat being vacated by retiring Representative Jerrold Nadler.
Schlossberg joins a crowded field of contenders for the district after Nadler’s September retirement announcement.
The political commentator and writer has been published in The Washington Post, Politico and Time magazine.
His decision comes as Democrats hope to regain House control in the 2026 midterm elections.
“There is nothing our party can’t do to address costs of living, corruption and the constitutional crisis that we’re in,” Schlossberg told the Times.
“But without the control of Congress, there’s almost nothing that we can do.”
Schlossberg gained Democratic spotlight attention with his 2024 convention speech endorsing Kamala Harris.
He has previously criticized his cousin Robert F. Kennedy Jr, whom Trump appointed as health secretary.
The congressional bid continues the Kennedy family’s storied political legacy despite its tragedies.
Schlossberg’s entry follows Zohran Mamdani’s recent election as New York City mayor.
Like Mamdani, Schlossberg boasts significant social media influence with over 830,000 TikTok followers.
“If Zohran Mamdani and I have anything in common, it’s that we are both trying to be authentic versions of ourselves,” he told the Times. – Reuters
