Child among 10 illegal immigrants detained in Labuan

Labuan Immigration Department director Raymond Entalai said the immigrants comprised four men, four women and a child.

LABUAN: The Labuan Immigration Department detained 10 illegal immigrants during an operation on Nov 8.

Its director Raymond Entalai said the immigrants comprised nine Filipinos —  four men, four women and a child — and one Indonesian, aged between five and 50.

He said the raid was carried out at a settlement area between 10 pm and midnight, targeting locations suspected of harbouring undocumented immigrants.

“All those detained failed to produce valid travel documents.

“The detainees have been taken to the Labuan Immigration Detention Depot for further investigation and documentation before being processed for deportation,” he told Bernama today.

He added the department would continue to carry out similar operations from time to time and warned that employers or landlords found harbouring or hiring undocumented immigrants could face strict action under existing laws.

“The Labuan Immigration Department remains committed to ensuring that all foreign nationals residing or working here comply fully with Malaysia’s immigration laws,” Raymond said. – Bernama
