Sessions Court postpones Bung Moktar Radin and wife’s RM2.8 million corruption trial to January 2026 due to Sabah state election.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Sessions Court has postponed the defence hearing for Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and his wife Datin Seri Zizie Izette Abdul Samad’s RM2.8 million corruption case to January 2026.
Judge Rosli Ahmad granted the postponement after deputy public prosecutor Mohd Fadhly Mohd Zamry submitted a November 4 letter requesting the delay due to the Sabah state election scheduled for November 29.
“The court allows the hearings on November 27 and December 3 to be postponed, and the trial will resume from January 12 to 14, 2026,” said Rosli during the case mention.
Lawyer Ridha Abdah Subri, representing Bung Moktar, attended the proceedings where the court scheduled the new dates.
The defence is expected to call Zizie Izette to testify when the trial resumes next year.
Bung Moktar, the Kinabatangan member of Parliament, faces two counts of accepting bribes amounting to RM2.2 million and RM262,500.
The charges relate to allegedly securing approval for Felcra’s RM150 million investment in Public Mutual unit trusts in 2015.
He was accused of receiving the bribes from Public Mutual investment agent Madhi Abdul Hamid through his wife at Public Bank Berhad’s Taman Melawati branch.
Bung Moktar also faces a separate charge of corruptly obtaining RM337,500 from another Public Mutual investment agent, Norhaili Ahmad Mokhtar.
The money was allegedly received through the Public Ittikal Sequel Fund account registered under Zizie Izette’s name for the same purpose.
All charges were framed under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, carrying a maximum 20-year prison term and substantial fines.
Zizie Izette faces three charges of abetting her husband in relation to the same offences under Section 28(1)(c) of the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama
