Police confiscated 40 tonnes of white rice without valid documents from a trailer truck, with the seizure valued at RM350,050
KOTA BHARU: Police seized approximately 40 tonnes of white rice being transported without valid documents during an integrated operation.
The operation was conducted on Jalan Kota Bharu-Gua Musang last night by the state Internal Security and Public Order Department and Kuala Krai district police.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said officers stopped a Nissan CD4 lorry near the Taman Perisai Wira intersection in Kuala Krai.
He stated the driver was acting suspiciously, prompting the inspection that revealed the undocumented rice cargo.
“The inspection revealed a load of 40 tonnes of white rice without any valid documents,” he said in a statement today.
Police detained the truck driver for further investigation into the matter.
Mohd Yusoff believed the rice was accumulated in small quantities from the border area before being bulk-loaded for transport to Kuala Lumpur.
The total seizure value was estimated at RM350,050, with both the vehicle and rice cargo confiscated.
“The case is being investigated under Section 20 of the Control of Padi and Rice Act 1994,” he confirmed.
It will be referred to the Kelantan State Padi and Rice Regulatory Authority for further action.
He emphasised police would intensify operations against rice misuse affecting national food supply stability.
Mohd Yusoff welcomed public cooperation in providing information about such activities. – Bernama
