Key Sabah leaders file nomination papers for state election

Sabah CM Hajiji Noor, Bung Moktar Radin and Shafie Apdal among top leaders submitting nomination papers for the November 29 state election.

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor led several political party leaders in submitting nomination papers for the 17th Sabah State Election.

The Gabungan Rakyat Sabah chairman filed his papers at Dewan Seri Sulaman in Tuaran to defend his Sulaman seat.

Hajiji previously won Sulaman with a 3,099-vote majority in the September 2020 state election.

Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin submitted his nomination at Dewan Sri Lamag in Kinabatangan.

Bung Moktar is defending the Lamag seat which he retained with a 661-vote majority in the last election.

Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal filed his nomination at Dewan Arena Masyarakat in Semporna for the Senallang seat.

Shafie previously won Senallang with a commanding 4,631-vote majority.

Parti Cinta Sabah president Tan Sri Anifah Aman submitted his nomination at Dewan Kesenian Islam in Membakut for the Bongawan seat.

Anifah is contesting Bongawan for the first time under the GRS banner after previously losing the seat as a PCS candidate.

The Election Commission confirmed 1,784,843 voters are eligible to cast ballots in this election.

This includes 1,760,417 regular voters, 11,697 military personnel and spouses, and 12,729 police personnel and spouses.

Polling has been set for November 29 with early voting scheduled for November 25. – Bernama
