Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim visited a Ramadan bazaar in Sepanggar, engaging with traders and patrons during his 30-minute stop.

KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim visited the Ramadan Bazaar at University Apartment in Sepanggar today, spending about 30 minutes mingling with traders and patrons.

Anwar was accompanied by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Mustapha Sakmud during the visit which began at 4.53 pm.

The Prime Minister later proceeded to Universiti Malaysia Sabah for a breaking of fast event following his bazaar tour.

Kuih vendor Francis Sungkin, 42, expressed his excitement at meeting Anwar and having the leader visit his stall.

“I am happy because my stall was among those visited by the Prime Minister and it motivates me even more to continue trading with the presence of the country’s number one leader,” Sungkin told Bernama.

He added that he has been trading at the bazaar for three years and this marked the first time a Prime Minister had visited.

Visitor Jerry Soibik, 41, said he did not expect to meet the Prime Minister when he stopped by the bazaar today.

“This is my first time visiting this bazaar…coincidentally I brought my son to get a haircut in the area and stopped by to buy food, and I did not expect to run into the Prime Minister,” said Soibik.

He noted that while he and his son were unable to take a photo with Anwar due to the crowd, he hoped for another opportunity to meet the country’s leader in the future.
