Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim refutes claims of delays in Pan Borneo Sabah Highway, confirms Phase 1 completion by 2029 covering 706 km
KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has strongly refuted allegations that the MADANI Government has been slow in completing the Pan Borneo Highway in Sabah.
He criticised claims by certain parties about project delays, noting the original 2022 completion target had not been met.
Anwar emphasised the Federal Government’s consistent commitment to resolving Sabah’s highway issues, mirroring the successful implementation in Sarawak.
“Sarawak was completed earlier, while Sabah has had unresolved road issues for decades,” he stated.
“So I took over, and I said no way, there must be no delays,” Anwar told attendees at the Temu Anwar “Harapan Urang Muda Sabah” programme.
The Prime Minister expressed appreciation to Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor for consistent cooperation in expediting the project.
Phase 1 of the Pan Borneo Sabah Highway project is expected to be fully completed by 2029.
This initial phase involves 11 packages covering 706 kilometres from Sindumin to Kota Kinabalu, Batu 32 to Sandakan and Tawau, plus the Tuaran to Kudat coastal route.
The entire Pan Borneo Highway project in Sabah will span 1,236 kilometres upon completion. – Bernama
