Second teen found drowned at Bintulu waterfall

A second 12-year-old boy has been found dead after a swimming trip with friends at a Sarawak waterfall, bringing the tragic toll to two.

SIBU: The body of a second teenage boy missing after a swimming trip at Sungai Plan Lot waterfall was found late last night. The 12-year-old, identified as Darren Dakun Paruscrum, was discovered by members of the public at 11.19pm.

His body was found approximately five metres from the riverbank. The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) stated that firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving a call about the discovery at 11.20pm.

The victim’s body was subsequently handed over to the police. Following the discovery and discussions with other agencies, the search and rescue operation was officially called off at 12.33am.

The incident began yesterday afternoon when four teenagers, aged between 12 and 14, went to the waterfall to swim. Two of the boys were reported missing after they were last seen at around 2.30pm.

The first victim, 12-year-old Tristan Mariss Marissa Erna, was found earlier by the SAR team. He was discovered drowned at 5.20pm, also about five metres from the riverbank at a depth of nine metres.

His body was also handed over to the police for further action. The tragic discoveries have concluded the search operation for the two missing youths.
