Sultan Nazrin Shah and Raja Permaisuri Perak joined 9,000 participants for the Sultan Perak Birthday Run in Kuala Kangsar, featuring multiple race categories
KUALA KANGSAR: Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah and Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim joined over 9,000 participants in the Sultan Perak Birthday Run at Dataran Pavilion.
Raja Di Hilir Perak Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris Shah and their daughter Raja Nazira Safya also attended the event.
Sultan Nazrin’s sister Raja Datuk Seri Yong Sofia was present alongside Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and state executive councillors.
The run began at 6.45 am in conjunction with the Sultan’s 69th birthday celebration observed on November 7.
Sultan Nazrin flagged off participants in the 15-kilometre, 10-kilometre and 7-kilometre categories.
Raja Datuk Seri Yong Sofia flagged off runners in the 3-kilometre VIP guest category.
Their Royal Highnesses later toured checkpoints featuring cultural dance performances and agency demonstrations.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency displayed assets and conducted demonstrations during the event.
Sultan Nazrin and Tuanku Zara attended a banquet and prize-giving ceremony before departing.
Winners of the 15-kilometre event received RM800, RM700 and RM600 respectively with plaques.
10-kilometre category winners took home RM600, RM500 and RM400 respectively with plaques.
Now in its 11th edition, the run covered village areas in Mukim Sayong and Kota Lama Kanan.
The route included the Sultan Abdul Jalil Shah Bridge and various other locations.
Traditional games such as gasing and sepak raga enlivened the event alongside cultural performances.
Rebana performances and Chinese and Indian drum displays entertained participants and spectators.
Labu sayong demonstrations and stalls offering traditional Perak cakes completed the festivities. – Bernama
