Iran’s state foundation says 3,468 people have been killed in the recent conflict with the US and Israel, as a two-week ceasefire holds

TEHRAN: Iran’s state-run Foundation of Martyrs and Veterans Affairs has reported that 3,468 people have been killed in the recent conflict with the United States and Israel.

The announcement was made during a two-week ceasefire in the war, which began with US-Israeli strikes on Tehran in late February.

Foundation head Ahmad Mousavi was quoted by the ISNA news agency as saying that 3,468 “martyrs… fell during the recent conflict”.

This figure updates a previous official toll of 3,375 dead issued on April 12 by the head of the Iranian Legal Medicine Organization.

Separately, the US-based Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) reported a higher toll of at least 3,636 people killed as of April 7.

HRANA’s breakdown included 1,701 civilians, among them at least 254 children, as well as 1,221 military personnel and 714 people of unclassified status.

Due to reporting restrictions, AFP is unable to access strike sites or independently verify casualty figures within Iran.
