The Iowa City Police Department stated that officers responded to a report of a large fight just before 2:00 am local time and heard gunfire upon arriving at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that multiple victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment, though their current conditions remain unknown.
The University of Iowa issued emergency alerts telling people to avoid the area near College and Clinton streets, a popular nightlife spot in the heart of the college town.
