DBKL slashes event deposits to boost tourism drive

Kuala Lumpur City Hall cuts security deposits for concerts and performances to attract more events and support the extended Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) is lowering security deposit rates for concerts and performances to support the extended Visit Malaysia 2026 tourism campaign.

The new rates, effective from May 1, aim to attract more event organisers to the capital.

For events involving local artistes, the deposit for stage or cultural performances is reduced from RM10,000 to RM4,000. The deposit for concerts by local artistes is set at RM10,000.

For foreign artistes, the deposit for stage and cultural performances drops from RM30,000 to RM8,000. The concert deposit for foreign artistes is reduced from RM30,000 to RM15,000.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh announced the move after attending an Arts, Live Festivals and Events Association (ALIFE) Malaysia event.

She said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s call for all ministries to support government agendas.

“We will attract more event organisers to organise programmes, concerts and activities in Kuala Lumpur,” she told reporters.

The Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign has been extended to 2027 to allow the international tourism market more time to recover.

Economic Affairs Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir previously stated the campaign targets 47 million foreign tourists and RM329 billion in tourism revenue.
