Sukau PGRS refutes claims of 2,000 members leaving, calling it political fantasy with fewer than 10 actual departures from the party
KOTA KINABALU: The Sukau division of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah has dismissed allegations that more than 2,000 members have quit the party.
Division secretary Emerson Dawang described the claims as baseless, defamatory and “political fantasy.”
An internal check revealed fewer than 10 members had actually left the party, he said in a statement.
Several individuals cited in the allegation were actually new members who previously belonged to Parti Warisan.
These members followed former Sukau PGRS Women’s chief Dayang Norhayati Titing when she joined Barisan Nasional.
“Dayang Norhayati has long been inactive at the division level, and the branch she led is also inactive,” Emerson stated.
He characterized her claim of a 2,000-member exodus as cheap political provocation.
The allegation aimed to portray Sukau PGRS as being in crisis, which he said was far from the truth.
The division strongly rejects the allegation and views attempts to tarnish the party’s image as serious.
PGRS Sukau remains stable, organised and continues to grow with rising membership, he emphasized.
“The PGRS machinery in Sukau state constituency is on standby and strengthening campaigns for the state election,” he added.
The Election Commission has set November 29 as polling day for the 17th Sabah state election.
Early voting will take place on November 25. – Bernama
