THE BYD Seal 6 DM-i has been launched in Singapore, offered in both sedan and Touring wagon body styles. Three variants are available in total. The Seal 6 DM-i sedan is offered in Dynamic and Premium variants, priced at SGD 188,888 and SGD 196,888 respectively. Meanwhile, the Seal 6 DM-i Touring is offered in a single Dynamic variant, priced at SGD 192,888.
Based on an exchange rate at time of writing, this works out to approximately RM 590k for the Dynamic sedan, RM 615k for the Premium sedan and RM 603k for the Touring wagon.
All variants use BYD’s DM-i plug-in hybrid (PHEV) system with a 1.5-litre petrol engine and front-wheel drive layout. The Dynamic sedan and Touring produce a combined output of 174 hp and 210 Nm, while the Premium sedan produces 219 hp and 260 Nm. Top speed is 180 km/h across the range.
The Dynamic sedan and Touring are equipped with a 10.08 kWh battery, while the Premium sedan gets a larger 19 kWh battery. WLTP electric range is rated at 55 km for the Dynamic sedan, 105 km for the Premium sedan and 50 km for the Touring.
Charging also differs depending on variant. The Dynamic sedan and Touring support AC charging at 3.3 kW, while the Premium sedan supports 6.6 kW AC charging and 27 kW DC charging.
Exterior highlights include BYD’s Ocean Aesthetics design language, an Ocean X front design, double-L headlamps and sculpted character lines. Five colours are available, which are Palm Green (Pine Green for the Touring), Cosmos Black, Atlantis Grey, Arctic White and Beach Beige.
Inside, all variants come with an 8.8-inch instrument cluster, synthetic leather seats, a 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear air-conditioning vents, keyless entry and start.
The Premium sedan adds higher-end features such as ventilated front seats, driver memory function, eight speakers, rain-sensing wipers, an anti-glare rear-view mirror and sunroof. The Touring also gets selected premium exterior features such as stainless steel upper side window trim.
While the Seal 6 EV is already sold in Malaysia, the Seal 6 DM-i remains a separate plug-in hybrid model based on BYD’s Ocean-series Seal 06, rather than the Malaysian-market Seal 6 EV.
BYD Malaysia has previously confirmed plans to introduce its Super Dual Mode plug-in hybrid powertrains locally, but the lack of specific incentives for PHEVs could be one reason why BYD’s DM-i models have yet to be introduced here, despite being on the roadmap. Whether the Seal 6 DM-i sedan or Touring will eventually join the Malaysian lineup remains to be seen.
