Malaysia launches National Ageing Blueprint 2025–2045 as senior citizens projected to comprise 14% of the population by 2048, focusing on six key areas
KOTA BHARU: Senior citizens are projected to constitute approximately 14% of Malaysia’s population by 2048.
Public Service Department Pension Division Director Datuk Mohd Shahrim Hussin said the government has therefore launched the National Ageing Blueprint 2025–2045.
The blueprint adopts a lifelong approach to prepare the nation for ageing society challenges.
It focuses on six key areas: economy, employment, education, social protection, health and long-term care.
Mohd Shahrim said these areas guide JPA’s ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery for retirees.
“Whether through the digitalisation of the pension process, data strengthening or fostering inter-agency collaboration, the PSD’s goal is to ensure that every pensioner receives benefits quickly and efficiently,” he stated.
He delivered this speech at the MyPesara 2025 Awards ceremony during the MyPesara Carnival here.
The event was also attended by Retirement Fund Incorporated chief executive officer Datuk Nik Amlizan Mohamed.
The three-day carnival featured activities promoting active ageing, financial empowerment and community well-being.
Mohd Shahrim said the initiative reflects PSD’s commitment to engaging pensioners holistically through recognition and community involvement.
Min House Camp founder Wan Noriah Wan Ramli, 69, was named grand winner at the MyPesara Awards 2025.
She received RM50,000 in cash for her community centre serving persons with disabilities.
Wan Noriah also won the Social and Community Services Category, while Dr Abas Mazni Othman won Entrepreneurship and Prof Emeritus Dr Mohamad Mokhtar Abu Hassan won Education.
Each category winner received RM10,000 in cash prizes.
Wan Noriah said the prize money would upgrade facilities for PwDs at Min House Camp.
Approximately 180 PwDs have received training services at the centre since its establishment in 2010.
The community centre initially developed using her pension funds from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
It now serves as a national model for inclusive community development integrating income generation with environmental conservation.
The centre has received grant support from several ministries including Tourism and Science and Innovation. – Bernama
