Hamas rejects UN Gaza resolution for international force in Gaza, saying it doesn’t meet Palestinian demands and imposes international trusteeship.
GAZA CITY: Hamas has rejected Monday’s United Nations Security Council resolution calling for an international force deployment in Gaza.
The Islamist militant group stated the resolution fails to respect Palestinian political and humanitarian demands and rights.
“This resolution does not meet the level of our Palestinian people’s political and humanitarian demands and rights,” Hamas said in a statement.
The group specifically condemned the proposed international force’s mission to disarm Palestinian factions in Gaza.
“The resolution imposes an international trusteeship on the Gaza Strip, which our people, its forces, and its constituent groups reject,” the statement continued.
The UN Security Council voted earlier Monday on the US-drafted resolution supporting President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan.
Thirteen council members voted in favor of the text described by Washington as historic and constructive.
Russia and China abstained from the vote but did not exercise their veto power.
The resolution includes provisions for a future Palestinian state alongside the international force deployment. – AFP
