Sultan of Pahang urges full flood preparedness ahead of monsoon season

Sultan of Pahang calls for enhanced flood readiness, stressing public alerts, relief centre welfare, and drainage maintenance for the 2025/2026 monsoon.

KUANTAN: The Sultan of Pahang has called for comprehensive preparations ahead of the upcoming flood season.

Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah emphasised that all relevant agencies must ensure the safety and welfare of residents in high-risk areas.

“All parties must take earnest measures in making early preparations because the flood disaster requires cooperation from everyone,” he stated in a post on the Pahang Royal Household’s official Facebook page.

His Royal Highness stressed the need to safeguard the welfare of flood victims, including the provision of clean and good-quality food at temporary relief centres.

He also highlighted the importance of maintaining clean and properly managed toilets at these centres to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

The Sultan made these remarks after attending the Northeast Monsoon 2025/2026 briefing at the Sultan Ahmad Shah Administrative Centre.

He further decreed that information on high tides, heavy rainfall, and potential flood risks must be disseminated promptly to the public.

This would enable residents in flood-prone areas to make early preparations.

Al-Sultan Abdullah suggested that the state government consider establishing permanent relief centres by upgrading existing halls.

Such a move would provide long-term benefits and reduce future management costs.

He also urged all local authorities to intensify cleaning works at drains and drainage systems.

This is to ensure water flow remains unobstructed during heavy rain.

Additionally, His Royal Highness decreed that all mosques and surau in Pahang perform solat hajat.

The special prayer seeks Allah SWT’s protection to spare the state from flood disasters and other calamities. – Bernama
