KESUMA to upskill workers hit by global supply chain crisis

KESUMA offers TVET upskilling and job matching for workers affected by the global supply chain crisis, says minister Ramanan.

JOHOR BAHRU: The Ministry of Human Resources (KESUMA) will provide upskilling and reskilling opportunities through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes for individuals who lose their jobs due to the global supply chain crisis.

Its Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said affected workers, particularly those from the services, manufacturing and construction sectors, would also receive employment assistance through the Social Security Organisation’s (PERKESO) MYFutureJobs platform.

“They will undergo job matching and we will ensure that the placements are suitable,” he told reporters after launching the MADANI Furniture Initiative and KALVI MADANI Programme at Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) Yahya Awal here today.

Also present were Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek and Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.

Meanwhile, Ramanan said 39,692 pupils and 5,290 teachers from 361 government-aided Tamil vernacular schools (SJKT) would benefit from the RM12.8 million MADANI Furniture Initiative.

He said 14 types of high-quality furniture and equipment, including tables, chairs, cabinets and fans, would be supplied in phases from this month until August.

He added that RM8 million had been allocated for the KALVI MADANI Programme, which includes free tuition classes, nutritional support, learning kits and devices, as well as teacher welfare initiatives.

“The programme has been specifically designed to benefit nearly 10,410 Indian pupils in 315 selected SJKTs,” he said.
