Selangor local authorities ordered to improve public transport connectivity and pedestrian walkways with state funding support.
SHAH ALAM: Selangor local authorities (PBT) have been instructed to review all connectivity facilities related to public transportation in the state, said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.
He said the state government is ready to allocate additional funds to ensure proper facilities, including more comfortable and safer pedestrian walkways, are provided for the people.
He added that this matter should be taken seriously and should not be carried out at a high cost, but rather should help advance the state’s mobility goal of increasing the use of public vehicles.
“The PBTs must be proactive in addressing this issue, and not wait for reports to be circulated via X, Threads or other social media platforms. They should, instead, listen to the views of their council members and stakeholders so that we can have a more efficient first-mile and last-mile connectivity,” he said.
He said this in response to an interjection by Danial Al-Rashid Haron Aminar Rashid (PH-Batu Tiga) during the winding up of the debate on the Selangor Resilience Strengthening Package in the State Legislative Assembly today.
Danial Al-Rashid had raised the issue of connectivity between public transport, especially LRT3, and surrounding areas, which went viral on social media.
Amirudin said state Investment, Trade and Mobility Committee chairman Ng Sze Han will be instructed to meet with all public transport operators in Selangor to create a service mapping to identify areas with gaps.
“We will provide subsidies, but if the operators are still operating with that gap, it will not be beneficial. People will choose private vehicles for accessibility, and they can also better utilise their time when going from one location to another.
“I have told the Kinrara assemblyman (Ng Sze Han) to contact all operators and address that gap. We can help through the subsidies we provide. Those subsidies may reduce their costs, but if their operating hours are not properly managed, it won’t benefit them,” he added.
