Perak urges federal government to expedite new Kampar Hospital project

Perak state government calls on federal authorities to speed up construction of the new Kampar Hospital building as the existing facility deteriorates.

IPOH: The Perak state government has urged the Federal Government to expedite the construction of the new Kampar Hospital building.

State Human Resources, Health, Indian Community Affairs and National Integration Committee chairman Datuk A. Sivanesan said this was necessary as the existing Kampar Hospital had become increasingly dilapidated and was no longer suitable to meet patients’ needs.

He said the state government was appealing to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad to give serious attention to the project.

“Kampar Hospital is difficult to repair and restore. The environment and location of the hospital are also unsuitable, not only for persons with disabilities but also for elderly patients without transport, who face difficulties getting to the hospital.

“During the rainy season, it becomes difficult for patients to move from one block to another. Kampar Hospital is an old facility built in the 1940s and 1950s and is far from patient-friendly,” he told a press conference at the Perak Darul Ridzuan Building here today.

Sivanesan said an allocation of RM500 million for the construction of the new hospital had already been approved in 2019 after taking into account the physical condition of the old hospital.

Previously, a serious leak at Kampar Hospital forced healthcare personnel to use umbrellas to shield patients inside a ward.

The incident was shared by a social media user who witnessed rainwater dripping into the ward, while repeated power disruptions also affected medical equipment, including ventilators.

In another development, Sivanesan said the authorities had issued a summons against a man’s vehicle at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital (HRPB) on Jalan Raja Ashman Shah because it had been parked in a location that obstructed traffic flow and impaired the visibility of other road users.

He said the state government and the police had previously reached an understanding allowing members of the public to park along road shoulders near the hospital without being issued summonses, provided they complied with the stipulated conditions.

According to him, enforcement action is only taken against vehicles parked in prohibited areas, such as near hospital entry and exit points, roundabouts and locations that can obstruct visibility and the movement of ambulances.

Recently, a Facebook user questioned the issuance of a summons against his vehicle and also blamed the state government for the matter.
