Johor polls final checks ensure smooth nomination process tomorrow

Election Commission makes final preparations for Johor state election nomination process, with all 56 centres ready for candidates.

JOHOR BAHRU: The Election Commission (EC) is today busy making final preparations to ensure that the nomination process for tomorrow’s Johor state election runs smoothly.

Bernama’s survey of several Candidate Nomination Centre (PPC) locations here found that only some final works involving technical aspects are being carried out by personnel at the location.

The returning officer (RO) of the Perling state constituency PPC at Dewan Jubli Intan Hall here, Nazatul Shima Mohamad said the layout of the premises including the final simulation with the agencies involved had been completed today.

“Alhamdulillah, we are 100 per cent ready, all parties are supporting us and are equally enthusiastic to ensure that the nomination process tomorrow can run smoothly.

“To prospective candidates, we are ready to help you all and I hope that you will cooperate as best you can so that the nomination process can run smoothly, make sure to come early and bring the required documents including the deposit money,” she told Bernama today.

Meanwhile, Kota Iskandar PPC RO Shahrulizam Abdul Rashid said that officers at the Main Hall of the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), Medini here are ready to ensure that the nomination process for the area runs smoothly.

“The preparations include cooperation with the police in our readiness to manage the expected presence of supporters of the candidates who will be contesting tomorrow.

“This includes the closure of roads around the route near the PPC, setting a 50-metre restriction (for supporters to the PPC location), setting up tents outside the hall and installing barriers to separate supporters of the competing parties,” he said.

He also advised the public who intend to join their respective party supporters’ groups at the PPC to always be prudent and avoid any provocations against each other.

The nomination process for the Johor polls is scheduled to begin from 9 to 10 am tomorrow at the 56 PPCs that have been set, before the official announcement of candidates eligible to contest is made by the RO.

Based on EC statistics, this election involves a total of 2,727,926 registered voters consisting of 2,703,175 ordinary voters, 12,041 military personnel and spouses, and 12,710 police personnel and spouses.

The Johor State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on June 1, with the EC setting tomorrow as nomination day, while July 7 for early voting and July 11 as polling day.
