Semarak Isya’ programme to boost mosque activities in Johor

Johor BN pledges to expand Semarak Isya’ programme across state constituencies, offering religious talks and free dinners after isyak prayers.

JOHOR BAHRU: Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) is committed to expanding the success of the Semarak Subuh programme through the implementation of the Semarak Isya’ programme in every state constituency should it be given the mandate in the upcoming state election.

The initiative is among 63 pledges outlined in the Johor BN Manifesto themed ‘Maju Johor, Kestabilan Dikekalkan, Kemajuan Diteruskan’.

Johor BN chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the Semarak Isya’ programme is designed to continue efforts to enliven mosques and surau, not only as places of worship but also as centres of knowledge, welfare and community unity.

“Through this initiative, programmes in the form of religious lectures, spiritual content and community activities will be held after the isyak prayers, including the provision of free dinner for congregants,” he said in a statement.

The Machap incumbent assemblyman said the development of a state should not be measured solely by physical development and economic growth, but must also be balanced with the building of values, spiritual strength and community harmony.

“Semarak Subuh programme has brought the community closer to mosques and surau. Through Semarak Isya’, we want to continue that spirit with content that is closer to families, young people and the community after they have completed their daily affairs,” he said.

He added that the programme is expected to provide greater opportunities for young people and families to participate in religious activities in a more welcoming environment that is closer to community life.

Onn Hafiz said implementation in every state constituency would allow programmes to be tailored to local community needs, including religious lectures, family programmes, volunteerism, welfare and community development activities.

He said a progressive Johor must be built on a population that is not only knowledgeable and skilled but also possesses strong values and a sense of responsibility towards society.

“True development is when the economy grows, the people prosper and relationships within society become closer. That is the balance we want to achieve through Semarak Isya’,” he said.

The Election Commission has set tomorrow as nomination day for the Johor state election, while polling day will be held on July 11 following the dissolution of the state assembly on June 1.
