Kampung Istana has ecotourism potential with digital economy boost

Fahmi says Kampung Istana near Bukit Banang and Bukit Soga can be developed as an ecotourism destination with digital marketing training and better internet access.

BATU PAHAT: Kampung Istana in the Penggaram state constituency has the potential to be developed as an ecotourism destination with the support of digital marketing training for local entrepreneurs and better internet access to generate the residents’ economy.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the village’s strategic location, which is located near popular recreation centres such as Bukit Banang and Bukit Soga, is a major catalyst for the development of the sector.

“I have been informed that the potential for ecotourism here is very high. I will try to discuss with the nearest National Information Dissemination (NADI) if possible to invite several entrepreneurs from this village to learn promotional techniques to improve ecotourism,” he said.

Fahmi told the media after a goodwill programme with the residents of Kampung Istana, here today.

Also present were Communications Ministry secretary-general Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah and Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for Penggaram constituency Felicia Poh Rui Ling.

Fahmi said the strengthening of the internet network in the area would not only support the tourism sector, but also enable young people to fully benefit from the digital economy without having to leave their hometowns.

“I am also looking at whether there is an opportunity to enable young people to fully benefit from the better internet network so that they can improve the local economy without having to leave Kampung Istana,” he said.

Earlier, he expressed his appreciation to Abdul Halim for the implementation of the Kampung Angkat MADANI Programme in Kampung Istana which was implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance and the Johor State Government.

He said several public facilities including the community hall had been upgraded, while the ministry had also donated various equipment to support community activities and mutual cooperation among residents.

“I hope that the facilities and equipment provided can be fully utilised by the residents and help ensure that Kampung Istana continues to remain clean, beautiful and viable,” he said.
