The RM149,888 nasi lemak that had Malaysians laughing

Nasi lemak photo with RM149,888 “price” amuses with funny reactions and comments online

IMAGINE wanting to have nasi lemak bungkus for breakfast, only to be left in shock after taking a closer look.

“Made in Germany. Only RM149,888.”

At first glance, it appears to be the price of a nasi lemak bungkus. However, a second look reveals that it is simply a newspaper wrapped in such a way that those words appear prominently on the front.

A woman shared the photo on Threads on June 19, writing: “I wanted to eat nasi lemak this morning, but when I saw the price, I decided not to… moreover, it is not even made in Malaysia.”

The post quickly attracted light-hearted reactions from netizens.

“How much is the down payment?” one user joked.

“Does the nasi lemak come with a 4.0-litre V6 engine?” another asked, referring to a car.

“Wow, even Germans are good at making nasi lemak,” another commented.

“Why is nasi lemak so expensive in Malaysia? Inflation? When I was younger, it was only RM0.50. Now it costs the same as a Mazda,” another netizen joked.

“You’d need a personal loan just to buy one nasi lemak,” another quipped.
