MACC has confirmed that its investigation into allegations of discrepancies involving petroleum cargo documentation at Tanjung Langsat Port in Johor has been received and reviewed by the Information Assessment Committee (JMM).
PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has confirmed that its investigation into allegations of discrepancies involving petroleum cargo documentation at Tanjung Langsat Port in Johor has been received and reviewed by the Information Assessment Committee (JMM).
Maritime Network Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri R. Jeyenderan said he was satisfied with the response received from the MACC via email in mid-June, which informed him that the case remains under investigation.
He said his company has fully cooperated throughout the investigation by attending every meeting requested and submitting all documents and information required by investigating officers.
According to Jeyenderan, his visit to the MACC headquarters today was not intended to pressure any party, but rather to obtain an update on the progress of the investigation, which has been ongoing for nearly three months.
“We respect the MACC and the investigation process. We are simply seeking clarification on the latest status of the investigation and whether there is anything further required from us,” he told reporters after submitting a letter requesting that the investigation be expedited at the MACC headquarters today.
In early June, media reports highlighted concerns raised by Malaysia Corruption Watch (MCW) over the alleged discrepancies in petroleum cargo documentation, warning that they could create opportunities for various forms of misconduct.
MCW president Jais Abdul Karim was reported as saying that the MACC should give immediate attention to the allegations if there were elements of corruption, abuse of power or document falsification.
Commenting further, Jeyenderan said that if the allegations are substantiated through the investigation, the matter would not only affect a single company but could also have wider implications for regulatory compliance, government revenue and confidence in Malaysia’s maritime and petroleum industries.
He said the original documents relating to the case had also been handed over to the MACC on the advice of investigating officers, who informed him that the documents were better submitted in their original form rather than by email.
Jeyenderan added that the MACC officer who received the documents had informed him that the commission would contact the complainant should there be any developments or further action.
“I view today’s response as encouraging. They informed me that the investigation is still ongoing, and I only need to wait for further updates.
“Based on the explanation provided by the MACC officer, the case remains under investigation, and I hope the process can be expedited after nearly three months of waiting,” he said.
