Health Minister confirms systematic corrective measures for NG MERS 999 platform while maintaining full emergency services during transition period
KUALA LUMPUR: The government has assured systematic implementation of all corrective measures for the new Next Generation Malaysian Emergency Response Services 999 platform.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said adjustments will be guided by data and technical expertise to ensure public safety.
He confirmed that ambulance services continue operating normally during the improvement process.
Medical call workflow adjustments are being made to align with the Ministry of Health’s requirements and proven operational model.
“The 999 emergency line remains fully operational and can be contacted at any time,” he stated in a social media post.
Dr Dzulkefly urged the public to use 999 only for genuine emergencies while showing kindness to responders adapting to the new system.
He described NG MERS 999 as a critical national system requiring public cooperation during its implementation phase.
The project involves a total cost of RM1.25 billion over an 11-year period.
This amounts to approximately RM113 million annually covering system design, development, installation and maintenance.
Annual operating costs for the SaveME999 application and Responder App total RM880,000, representing 0.78% of the total budget.
SaveME999 has been in development since 2013 as an enhancement within the new emergency response ecosystem.
A Joint Special Committee involving the Ministry of Communications and Ministry of Health ensures system effectiveness and stability.
NG MERS 999 began full operations on November 16, 2025, succeeding the original system introduced in 2007.
The upgraded platform strengthens national emergency response through faster, more accurate and modern communication networks. – Bernama
