Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim says reforms and policies over the past three years strengthened economic fundamentals and resilience.
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 5.8% in the second quarter of 2026 was driven by reforms and policies implemented by the MADANI Government over the past three years, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said in a Facebook post today that the reforms and policies have strengthened the country’s economic fundamentals and enabled Malaysia to face global uncertainties with more confidence.
“The country’s economy continues to show resilience despite the world facing geopolitical turmoil, supply chain disruptions and trade uncertainties,” he said.
He also said the achievement strengthens the government’s determination to continue to adhere to the path of reforms, strengthen economic resilience and balance the demands of growth, the well-being of the people and fiscal responsibility.
“The MADANI Government will continue to work harder to ensure that this economic strength is translated into more quality jobs, increased income and a more prosperous and dignified life for all the people, Insya-Allah,” said Anwar.
Meanwhile, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Finance (MOF), Anwar said the MADANI Economy Framework has strengthened the country’s ability to maintain sustainable growth even as the world continues to face uncertainty.
“However, we must realise that this achievement requires us to remain steadfast on the path of reform,” he said.
Anwar also said the MADANI Government acknowledged that despite encouraging economic growth, many citizens and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) are still facing difficulties following the impact of the global crisis which is also being felt in the country.
“Ever since the outbreak of the West Asian crisis, the government has been working hard to mobilise various efforts to ease the burden of the people, guarantee the supply of essential goods and ensure the continuity of businesses,” he said.
Anwar said that although the challenges ahead were difficult to predict, the government remained committed to protecting the well-being of the people, ensuring sustainable economic growth and maintaining the country’s fiscal responsibility.
“The MADANI Government will continue to carefully consider every effort so that no group is left behind, businesses can continue to operate and the country’s resilience continues to be strengthened,” he added.
Earlier today, the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) announced that the Malaysian economy grew by 5.8% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to 5.4% in the previous quarter.
