Continuous heavy rain triggers landslide on Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands near Ringlet, with no casualties reported.
IPOH: A landslide triggered by continuous heavy rain blocked part of Jalan Tapah-Cameron Highlands near Batu 25 (Jalan Pahang), about seven kilometres from Ringlet, Cameron Highlands, today.
Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director (Operations) Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department received a report on the incident at 3.12 pm, prompting personnel from the Tapah Fire and Rescue Station to be dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters arrived at 4.22 pm and found that the landslide had brought down tree branches and rocks, blocking half of the road, but no casualties were reported.
He said the team, assisted by Belati Wangsa (concessionaire), used a chainsaw to cut and clear the tree debris, while an excavator was deployed to remove the soil and rocks.
“After checks confirmed there were no further hazards, the cleaning work was handed over to Belati Wangsa for further action,” he said in a statement today.
Sabarodzi said the situation was brought under control at 4.40 pm, with the operation ending at 5.10 pm. The rain had stopped as of 6 pm.
Earlier, a video believed to show the landslide along the Tapah-Cameron Highlands road went viral on social media.
