Contractor for Sabah Pan Borneo Highway Work Package 11 submits recovery plan for 32-day delay, says Works Minister.
KOTA KINABALU: The contractor for the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway Work Package 11 (Phase 1B Rampayan Laut-Sarang alignment) (WP 11) has submitted a recovery plan to address the 32-day delay recorded so far.
Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that the measure is intended to ensure the RM167.48 million WP11 project is completed by its contractual completion date of Sept 29, 2026.
He said the 7.3-kilometre alignment had achieved 61.76 per cent physical progress as of June 25, but remained 4.35 per cent behind the original schedule.
“The Works Ministry, together with the Sabah Public Works Department (JKR Sabah), the project consultant and the contractor, will continue to closely monitor the implementation of the recovery plan to reduce the delay to 14 days by August 2026,” he posted on Facebook today, adding that the 7.3-kilometre alignment was at 61.76 per cent physical progress as of June 25, but remained 4.35 per cent behind the original schedule.
Nanta attributed the delays in completing the remaining on-site works to challenges in utility relocation involving Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB), the Sabah State Water Department (JANS), and Celcom Timur Sabah Sdn Bhd (CTSB), as well as land acquisition issues.
He stressed that all stakeholders must improve coordination and resolve these issues proactively and in an integrated manner to accelerate critical works.
Commenting on the project’s benefits, Nanta said the alignment will provide a safer and more efficient alternative route, shortening the travel distance to Simpang Mengayau or Kudat by up to 30 kilometres.
“In addition to reducing travel time by between 30 and 60 minutes, the route will improve access to the Tourism Belt and the Northern Sabah Coastal Tourism Master Plan,” he said, pointing out that the improved infrastructure connectivity would indirectly create more economic, investment, and employment opportunities for the local community.
“We not only want to ensure that this project is completed on schedule, but also that it is delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety and integrity for the well-being of the people of Sabah,” he said.
