TAWAU: The Ministry of Defence plans to increase military personnel numbers to strengthen security control in Sabah.
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said Sabah faces various traditional and non-traditional security challenges that require comprehensive solutions.
“We want to address the security issue in Sabah in a maximum way, strengthen security, in addition to establishing a new naval base to accommodate our new vessels that will be arriving in a year or two,” he told reporters.
The minister also announced the deployment of high-security drone technology in Sabah waters to enhance surveillance capabilities.
He revealed plans to increase the number of coastal radars in the state to ensure complete coverage with no blind spots.
Mohamed Khaled spoke after officiating at the Malaysia Armed Forces Family Day Carnival at the Kubota Camp here today.
In his speech, he emphasised that public involvement is crucial to safeguarding national sovereignty and safety.
He highlighted the ‘Whole of Government, Whole of Society’ approach outlined in the Defence White Paper study.

He stressed that public contribution is essential for the success of the national security ecosystem.
The minister also noted that the MAF Family Day Carnival successfully supported the welfare and well-being of armed forces personnel.
