Sabah FC sign Philippine international Oskari Kekkonen and four local players to strengthen squad ahead of the 2026/2027 season.
KOTA KINABALU: Sabah FC have officially signed Philippine international midfielder Oskari Kekkonen to strengthen their squad ahead of the 2026/2027 season starting this August.
Kekkonen, 27, arrives from Thai League 1 side Lamphun Warriors and is Sabah FC’s latest foreign addition.
“I’m proud to join Sabah FC, and I’ll do everything I can to help the team achieve our goals,” he said in a statement posted on the team’s official Facebook page today.
Sabah FC have also added four local players, namely midfielders Abdul Halim Saari and Fadzrul Danel Mohd Nizam, forward Fayadh Zulkifli, and defender Abdul Hanafie Tokyo Abdul Hasim.
Mohd Fadzrul, 28, joins from Imigresen FC seeking new challenges and career development.
“I feel this is the right time to seek a new challenge, grow as a player, and step out of my comfort zone. I believe Sabah FC share a vision aligned with my ambitions, and I want to give 100 per cent commitment to help the team achieve success,” he said.
Abdul Halim, 32, cited Sabah FC’s ambition and strong fan support as reasons for continuing his career with the club.
Abdul Hanafie, 27, returns to represent his home state after a stint with Imigresen FC.
The Sandakan-born defender can play both centre-back and right-back.
“Sabah FC are no stranger to me. In fact, this is the place I consider home. It is where I grew up and started my journey as a footballer.
“The opportunity to wear the Sabah FC shirt once again is a truly meaningful honour for me,” said the player, affectionately known as ‘Hanafie Tokyo’ among local fans.
