MOHE Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim said following the guidelines, universities had developed their own guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) based on the framework provided by the ministry to ensure generative AI was used ethically.
MELAKA: The Guidelines on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) Technology introduced by the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) in 2024 have helped higher education institutions (IPTs) manage the technology’s use while addressing issues involving academic integrity.
MOHE Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim said following the guidelines, universities had developed their own guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs) based on the framework provided by the ministry to ensure generative AI was used ethically.
“The guidelines have proven effective as universities now have clear procedures to handle cases involving AI misuse, including response mechanisms, SOPs and methods to address such issues,” he said.

Adam Adli said although cases of misuse still occurred, the guidelines had provided universities with a clear approach to manage such cases while setting expectations among students and lecturers.
He said students were required to declare their use of AI in academic assignments to allow the level of usage to be identified and assessed.
“They must also continue to apply proper research methods and academic referencing, and not rely entirely on AI-generated content.
“Using generative AI to produce assignments such as essays or journals without adhering to academic ethics may be considered a breach of academic integrity, which could result in disciplinary action, including the revocation of academic qualifications,” he said.
Adam Adli said technology could not replace academic discipline but should only serve as a supporting tool in the learning process.
Earlier, four outstanding SPM students received laptops while 100 university students received Kasih SISWA tablets under efforts to provide facilities and improve students’ wellbeing.
The assistance was provided under the Sejahtera MADANI initiative to support heads of households and household members from eKasih families in Melaka who achieved excellent results in the 2025 SPM examinations, as well as students pursuing studies at public and private higher education institutions.
