A security van driver died from a heart condition while giving his police statement after foiling a bank robbery in Klang.
SHAH ALAM: A security company van driver who was caught up in an attempted robbery during a cash transfer from a bank in Bandar Bukit Tinggi, Klang, died while giving his statement to police.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar confirmed the incident, saying the 43-year-old man collapsed and lost consciousness during the recording of his statement at the Klang Selatan District Police Headquarters on the night of the robbery.
“He was one of the security company personnel targeted in the incident. An ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital, where medical personnel confirmed his death. The post-mortem has been completed, and the cause of death identified so far is a heart condition,” he said.
He said this at a press conference on the successes of the Selangor Commercial Crime Investigation Department at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters here today.
Shazeli said no arrests have been made so far but police have obtained positive leads in their efforts to solve the case.
Yesterday, the media reported that the quick action of a security company employee foiled an attempt to rob the bank of about RM82,000 in cash during a cash transfer on the afternoon of July 20.
The suspect, who is still being hunted by police, also seized a pump-action shotgun from one of the security company employees before fleeing the scene.
