Anwar said Aminuddin has earned the coalition’s continued backing because of his performance in leading the state administration, his commitment to the people and ability to attract investments.
SEREMBAN: Leadership changes should only be considered when a leader fails to deliver results, Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said, stressing that Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun should be retained as the menteri besar because of his proven track record.
Anwar, who is also prime minister, said Aminuddin has earned the coalition’s continued backing because of his performance in leading the state administration, his commitment to the people and ability to attract investments.
He said he would not hesitate to support a change if Aminuddin had shown weaknesses such as failing to address public concerns, neglecting grassroots issues, lacking new initiatives or being unable to bring investments into the state.
“If there were obvious weaknesses – not knowing how to do the job, not going to the ground, not caring about the people’s problems, having no new initiatives or failing to attract investments – then we can consider replacing him.
“I have enough influence in PH to say, ‘That’s enough, Aminuddin. Thank you. Let someone else take over’. But when I look at his track record, sincerity, character and integrity, he is the best candidate we have,“ he said at a campaign rally in Paroi late Tuesday night.
Anwar said Aminuddin had demonstrated effective leadership through people-centric programmes, economic development initiatives and efforts to attract investments that would create more employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
He said investment remained a priority as sustained economic growth must translate into jobs for the younger generation.
“Investment is important because without it, there will be no new jobs, and our young people will struggle to find employment,“ he said.
Anwar also highlighted the state government’s efforts to strengthen Islamic institutions, including the construction of new mosques, saying Aminuddin’s administration should be judged on its overall social and economic achievements.
He also dismissed political narratives surrounding the idea of a “Malay government”, saying voters should assess parties based on their record in governing rather than political rhetoric.
Anwar said PH’s cooperation with DAP should likewise be evaluated objectively based on its principles and performance.
At a separate PH campaign event, Anwar questioned the opposition’s preoccupation with the menteri besar post even before polling day.
“Look at the other side. How many of them are already competing for the menteri besar’s post?
“Even before the election, they are fighting over it. They will probably continue to do so afterwards,“ he said.
He urged voters to continue supporting PH, saying its leaders remained focused on serving the people rather than engaging in internal political contests.
PH is contesting all 36 state seats in Negeri Sembilan, with Aminuddin seeking a fresh mandate to lead the state.
