Police open 14 probes into Negeri Sembilan election offences

Negeri Sembilan police have opened 14 investigation papers and approved 416 permits for campaign activities as of July 25

SEREMBAN: Police have opened 14 investigation papers into election-related offences during the campaign period for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election (PRN) as of yesterday, said state police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad.

He said three investigation papers were opened yesterday under Section 435 of the Penal Code for committing mischief by fire, causing loss of or damage to property.

Another two investigation papers were opened under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief resulting in loss of or damage to property.

He said the cases opened yesterday involved two police reports in Gemas, Tampin, concerning incidents of party flags being set on fire and campaign banners being vandalised, while one report in Titi, Jelebu involved a billboard that had been torn and damaged.

“Cumulatively, from July 18 to 25, the Negeri Sembilan Police Contingent received 28 reports related to election offences,” he said in a statement today.

Meanwhile, he said 94 of the 95 permit applications received yesterday for political ceramah and campaign activities were approved, bringing the total number of permits approved to 416.

Alzafny said police would continue to strengthen their level of preparedness, monitoring and enforcement throughout the campaign period, with firm action to be taken against any breach of the law.

“The public is urged to continue complying with the law, respect the democratic process and cooperate with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to ensure the election is conducted in a peaceful, orderly and harmonious manner,” he said.

Early voting for the Negeri Sembilan state election has been set for Tuesday, while polling day is on Aug 1.
