Six local men will be charged tomorrow at Petaling Jaya court over the kidnapping of a man for RM7 million
KUALA LUMPUR: Six local men will be charged at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court in Selangor tomorrow over the kidnapping of a man for a RM7 million ransom on July 17.
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said investigations into eight suspects have been completed. The investigation paper was referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers on Friday, and instructions to prosecute were received.
He said out of the eight suspects, six will be charged under Section 3(1) of the Kidnapping Act 1961 for kidnapping for ransom. Two others, a local man and a local woman, were released and made prosecution witnesses after being bonded under Section 118 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
“The charges will be brought at the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court at 9.30 am tomorrow,” he said in a statement today.
Kumar said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) remains committed to taking action against any individual or group involved in crime, especially violent crimes, to ensure public safety and peace.
“Members of the public are also urged to continue cooperating by channelling information to the authorities to help curb criminal activities,” he said.
Last Wednesday, Kumar said the 44-year-old victim rescued in the kidnapping case was detained under the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985 after investigations revealed that he was believed to be involved in a drug syndicate.
A day earlier, police arrested two more individuals at several locations in Selangor. Among them was a former policeman in his 30s who was dismissed from service in 2023 and suspected of involvement in the abduction.
On July 19, police rescued the victim and arrested six individuals, aged between 30 and 46, including a woman, believed to have demanded the RM7 million ransom during a special operation in Selangor.
All suspects were remanded for 10 days under Section 12 of the Kidnapping Act 1961, and the case was investigated under Section 3(1) of the same Act as well as the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
