With four days to polling day, Negeri Sembilan candidates step up campaigns through community events and social media.
SEREMBAN: The campaign for the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election (PRN) has entered its final and crucial phase, with only four days remaining before polling day as candidates intensify efforts to garner voters’ support.
Candidates are stepping up their campaign activities through various platforms, including conventional and social media, in a bid to strengthen their outreach and engage voters in their respective constituencies.
Beyond conventional campaign activities such as ceramah and door-to-door visits, candidates are also adopting more personal approaches by participating in community activities such as motorcycle engine oil service programmes, fishing in padi fields, bowling and football, as they seek to connect with voters.
In Rantau, Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate Dr Azizul Hakim Mahdi drew attention when he stepped away from his usual professional role as a doctor to demonstrate his skills in changing motorcycle engine oil during a programme with residents.
He said the automotive industry provides more than just technical skills, as it also creates opportunities for young people to pursue careers and become entrepreneurs by opening their own workshops.
As part of his campaign strategy to reach out to younger voters, Dr Azizul Hakim turned to social media with the slogan “Kalau sakit, cari doktor. Kalau susah, cari YB. Tapi kalau sakit dan susah, carilah Dr Hakim” (If you are sick, look for a doctor. If you are facing difficulties, look for YB. But if you are sick and facing difficulties, look for Dr Hakim).
This community-friendly approach was also evident when Dr Azizul Hakim participated in the Sepakan Penalti Harapan programme at Taman Kelab Tuanku, where he took time away from his campaign schedule to play football with residents before resuming his door-to-door campaign activities.
In Labu, PH candidate Datuk Ahmad Faez Abdul Rahman used the remaining campaign period to engage with residents by participating in the Bandar Enstek Veteran Bowling Championship at The Bowlers@MesaMall, Nilai. After spending time with participants and taking part in the bowling activity, he continued his campaign trail with a walkabout at the Desa Cempaka Night Market, where he met traders, distributed manifesto pamphlets and sought feedback on issues affecting Kampung Labu residents.
Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional candidate for the Kota seat Suhaimi Aini brought his campaign closer to the community by taking part in the Ngoca Sawah (fishing in padi fields) programme in Kampung Semerbok together with UMNO Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh.
A total of 22,339 military and police personnel and their eligible spouses will cast their ballots in early voting for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election tomorrow. Early voting will commence simultaneously at 8 am, with closing times varying according to the location and number of voters.
A total of 103 candidates are vying for the 36 state seats up for grabs, following the official dissolution of the Negeri Sembilan State Assembly on June 5. Polling day has been set for Aug 1.
