KPDN activates operations rooms in flood-hit states

KPDN sets up operations rooms in flood-hit states to monitor and ensure sufficient food supplies during monsoon season, with 2,102 suppliers increasing storage.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) has activated operations rooms in flood-hit states to ensure sufficient food supplies during the monsoon season.

Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said the operations rooms in Penang, Perlis, Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan began operations today.

“So far, none of the locations had reported food supply cuts,” she told a media conference after the ASEAN E-Commerce Conference 2025.

She explained that if supplies of essentials like sugar and milk are cut, the operations rooms will ensure such necessities reach the affected areas.

Preparations include allowing 2,102 selected wholesalers, retailers and manufacturers nationwide to increase food supply storage by up to 30%.

This measure began early this month and will continue until the end of the monsoon season.

The number of flood victims in seven states increased to 10,922 people as of 8 am today.

Kelantan recorded the highest number with 8,248 people from 3,022 families sheltering in 33 temporary relief centres.

Penang, Perlis and Perak also recorded increased numbers of flood victims, while Kedah and Terengganu saw decreases.

Selangor became the latest state to be hit by floods.
