Kuala Lumpur, Nairobi forge sustainable urban partnership

Kuala Lumpur and Nairobi sign a partnership for inclusive urban development, focusing on sustainability, tourism and waste management.

NAIROBI: Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and Nairobi City County Government have formalised a partnership focused on inclusive development and sustainability.

The collaboration covers tourism and culture, urban community development, skills empowerment, waste management, circular economy, and improved urban planning.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa announced the partnership via social media.

The letter of intent was exchanged between Dr Zaliha and Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports, Salim Mvurya, at the State House.

Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Kenyan President William Samoei Ruto witnessed the ceremony.

Dr Zaliha noted that Kuala Lumpur can leverage Nairobi’s experience in urban management and innovation.

Nairobi serves as a regional hub for finance, technology, and diplomacy in East Africa.

The partnership complements the implementation of the CHASE City vision in the Federal Territories.

This vision emphasises future urban planning, resilience, and strengthening global networks.

Dr Zaliha is part of the Malaysian delegation concluding a three-country African tour with Prime Minister Anwar.
