Three killed, boy injured in Lahad Datu MPV-trailer collision

Three adults died and an eight-year-old boy was seriously injured after an MPV collided head-on with a trailer lorry on Jalan Lahad Datu-Tawau.

LAHAD DATU: Three people were killed and an eight-year-old boy was injured in an accident involving a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) and a trailer lorry at Kilometre 33, Jalan Lahad Datu-Tawau, at about 1.05 pm yesterday.

Lahad Datu police chief ACP Dzulbaharin Ismail said preliminary investigations found that the accident occurred when the man driving the Toyota Innova, heading from Lahad Datu to Tawau, allegedly overtook several cars before crashing head-on with a trailer lorry.

He said the MPV driver, 40, and his two passengers, aged 39 and 43, were confirmed dead at the scene by a medical officer, while the boy suffered serious injuries and was sent to Lahad Datu Hospital.

Dzulbaharin said the trailer driver, 56, only suffered minor injuries, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

He advised those who have information regarding the incident to contact the investigating officer, Insp Jafri Juat, at 089-881255 or to go to the Lahad Datu Police Headquarters. – Bernama
