Flood evacuee numbers surge in 4 states, Kelantan worst-hit

Kelantan records over 11,000 flood evacuees as numbers spike in Perak, Kedah, Terengganu and Perlis, with one fatality reported.

KUALA LUMPUR: Kelantan remains the worst-affected state with flood evacuee numbers climbing to 11,120 people from 4,188 families as of tonight.

The state has opened 66 temporary relief centres across nine districts including Kota Bharu, Tumpat and Pasir Mas.

Water levels at Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang and Sungai Galas in Limau Kasturi remain above the danger level according to monitoring data.

Flooding in Kelantan claimed one life today when a 70-year-old woman died after her car was swept away by strong currents in Kampung Batu Lima.

Perak recorded 5,424 evacuees from 1,686 families, sheltering across 44 relief centres in eight affected districts.

Manjung remains Perak’s worst-hit district with 1,983 individuals accommodated in 16 temporary shelters.

Kedah’s evacuee count rose to 4,142 people from 1,414 families, housed in 21 relief centres across three districts.

Kubang Pasu district remains Kedah’s most affected area with 2,435 individuals from 897 families requiring shelter.

Terengganu saw numbers jump to 3,233 individuals from 1,050 families due to continuous rainfall throughout the day.

The state has activated 39 relief centres across six districts including Marang, Kuala Terengganu and Setiu.

Perlis recorded 6,627 evacuees housed in 21 relief centres located in Padang Besar, Arau and Kangar areas.

Pahang’s situation remains unchanged with 19 individuals from eight families still accommodated at a single relief centre in Lipis. – Bernama
