Punk fashion icon Pam Hogg dies, dressed stars from Rihanna to Lady Gaga

British punk designer Pam Hogg, known for dressing Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Kate Moss, has died surrounded by family in London

LONDON: Punk rock fashion designer Pam Hogg has died, her family announced on Wednesday.

The British designer was renowned for her non-conformist creations worn by stars including Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Kate Moss.

Her family confirmed her death in a social media statement, saying she died surrounded by friends and family at a hospice in east London.

“She leaves a magnificent legacy that will continue to inspire, bring joy and challenge us to live beyond the confines of convention,” they wrote.

The statement did not reveal her age or cause of death, though The Guardian reported she was believed to be 66.

Hogg was an iconic figure at London Fashion Week with her futuristic looks and flamboyant outfits that mixed irony, feminism and counter-culture.

Born in the Scottish textile town of Paisley, she studied in Glasgow and at London’s Royal College of Art before unveiling her first collection in 1981.

She was often compared to fellow punk fashion queen Vivienne Westwood, who died in 2022.

Beyond fashion, Hogg played in several bands including Doll, which opened for Debbie Harry in the 1990s.

Tributes poured in from actresses Rose McGowan and Patricia Arquette, the band Blondie and designer Roksanda Ilincic.

Kylie Minogue wore Hogg’s black metal-studded catsuit in her 2007 “2 Hearts” music video, while Beyonce also wore her designs. – AFP
