Malaysian SEA Games contingent relocates to Bangkok due to floods

206 Malaysian athletes and officials move from flood-hit Songkhla to Bangkok for 2025 SEA Games, with 10 sports affected by venue changes

A total of 206 national athletes and officials scheduled to train in Songkhla for the 2025 SEA Games will be relocated to Bangkok due to flooding in southern Thailand.

The National Sports Council announced it will assist the Olympic Council of Malaysia in coordinating the relocation following an organising committee decision.

Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports Atthakorn Sirilatthayakon confirmed all 10 sports originally scheduled for Songkhla have been transferred to Bangkok.

The committee stated the transfer ensures the event continues under controlled conditions while addressing athlete health and safety concerns.

Affected sports include Muay Thai, pencak silat, men’s football, chess, judo, kabaddi, karate, petanque, wushu and wrestling.

The Olympic Council of Malaysia will announce confirmed venues once receiving official notification from organisers.

The National Sports Council has contacted the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok to assist with the relocation process.

Both NSC and OCM have prepared Standard Operating Procedures to handle additional issues that may arise from the situation.

The 2025 SEA Games in Thailand are scheduled to take place from December 9 to 20. – Bernama
