NADMA coordinates additional aid as flood situation worsens

NADMA is sending thousands of meal kits and retort meals to flood-hit states while deploying Bailey bridges and collapsible tents nationwide as the disaster escalates.

PUTRAJAYA: The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) is coordinating urgent delivery of additional aid supplies as the flood situation deteriorates across several states.

NADMA received requests from Perak, Selangor, Kedah and Perlis for 3,000 meal kits and 6,700 retort meals to support workers and flood victims.

The agency has supplied 128,186 collapsible cubicle tents nationwide from various sources including its own stockpile and contributions from Yayasan Sultan Johor.

“NADMA is ready to make additional deliveries of C-Tents if there is a need in the field,” the agency stated.

Coordination is underway by the Malaysian Civil Defence Force headquarters to ensure optimal state preparedness levels.

To strengthen infrastructure recovery, NADMA has placed seven modular steel bridges at strategic locations nationwide.

Three Bailey bridges each are positioned in Sabah and Sarawak, with one additional unit in Kelantan.

These temporary bridges replace permanent structures damaged by floods, landslides and other disasters common during the Northeast Monsoon season.

Initial steps were taken before the monsoon to ensure optimal disaster logistics including food aid, tents and bridge assets.

NADMA distributed 60,000 meal kits for victims after they leave evacuation centres and 110,000 retort meals for operations personnel.

The agency is collaborating with the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority to provide phased food supplies during the disaster.
