Budget 2027 boosts support for Malaysia’s Indian community with RM350 million for education, skills training, business financing and development

KUALA LUMPUR: Budget 2027 reflects the MADANI Government’s commitment to advancing the Indian community’s socioeconomic well-being through increased allocations for education, skills training and entrepreneurial financing.

PKR deputy communications director Jonathan Vela said the higher allocations would expand opportunities to secure quality jobs, grow businesses and raise household incomes.

“This commitment strengthens the Indian community’s ability to secure quality employment, expand businesses and increase household incomes, while creating broader opportunities for the next generation to progress,” he said in a statement today.

He said the RM150 million allocation for the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA), a 50 per cent increase from RM100 million in 2026, would strengthen the implementation of socioeconomic development and skills training programmes.

He added that the focus on technical fields, technology and aircraft maintenance could equip Indian youths with high-value skills and improve their prospects of securing better-paying jobs.

In addition, he said the RM150 million funding through TEKUN Nasional and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) would support Indian small-business owners in expanding their enterprises, potentially strengthening household economies and creating employment opportunities.

Jonathan said the RM50 million allocation for Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) would help address infrastructure needs at underfunded and dilapidated schools, ensuring a safer and more conducive learning environment for students.

He said the three allocations totalled RM350 million, an increase of about 59 per cent from RM220 million in 2026.

Meanwhile, the RM80 million allocation for the maintenance and renovation of registered houses of worship also reflected the government’s concern for the well-being of the country’s multireligious communities, he said.

“I wish to express my deepest appreciation and gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for his concern and commitment to strengthening support for the Indian community through Budget 2027.

“This increase brings renewed hope to families, small-business owners and young people seeking to build a better future,” he said.
